Chapter 494 - 494: DSMW [494]
Chapter 494 - 494: DSMW [494]
In order to avoid being killed by the backlash effect of the Contract cards on his own field, Miles designated the first D/D/D Fusion Monster to descend through the "Demon God Contract".The otherworldly demon king bearing the name of the saint who saved a nation—Oracle King d'Arc, with her feminine form—brought forth a life-giving aura that severed all Contract backlash.
"The effect of [D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc]!"
[As long as this card exists in the Monster Zone, effects that would deal damage to you instead recover your Life Points.]
Any effect damage was converted into Life Point recovery for Miles, transforming the massive threat posed by Contract backlash into a surge of healing instead.
Moreover, although the Fusion Summoned [D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc] did not possess as much Attack as the gravity-axe-equipped [D/D/D Dragon King Pendragon], her 2800 Attack was still an overwhelmingly dominant presence by first-year summoning standards.
Monsters with combat power so completely outside the first-year average, combined with effortless Special and Fusion Summoning, made one thing abundantly clear.
This mysterious commoner freshman was simply not operating on the same plane as those aristocratic young masters.
He might look younger, but his level was far higher.
"Looks like Liam really kicked an iron plate this time."
"Um, Irena… could you refund my bet?"
"What are you dreaming about?"
"Damn it… don't lose, Liam! For the honor of the nobles!"
Are you really worried about noble honor? You're just worried about your wallets.
"I Set one card. Turn end. Now it's your turn to struggle, Liam!"
"…"
Clenching his teeth, Liam could barely manage to speak at this point.
As someone hailed as a new-generation duelist on par with—or even surpassing—Kevin Seth, Liam was no simple, blindly arrogant fool when it came to dueling.
If it had merely been baiting out the Slime's destruction to Special Summon [D/D/D Dragon King Pendragon], Liam could still convince himself that Miles was just relying on luck from yesterday's powerful summon.
But the follow-up Contract Fusion, and the moment [D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc] descended to nullify all Contract side effects, was more than enough proof.
Miles was anything but an ordinary duelist.
Although Fusion Academy specialized in Fusion Summoning, among first-years who had only been enrolled for two months, duelists capable of skillfully wielding Fusion—something that required at least a B-rank Spell to synthesize—were exceedingly rare.
"Why aren't you moving? Thinking of surrendering already?" Miles urged. "I don't offer half-loss surrenders here."
Irena: "Me neither~"
Liam knew he couldn't keep standing still any longer.
Even if the opponent's level clearly exceeded his own, victory was not entirely impossible.
"Surrender? I'd never do something that shameful."
There was only one chance—only a single card that could create an opening.
Fortunately, the practical test Decks were extremely small. With fourteen cards remaining, it was a one-in-fourteen chance.
If he could complete this Summon, he would truly surpass Kevin Seth at the same stage.
"I have my pride as a duelist too! My turn—draw!"
Drawing the card at the start of his turn, Liam staked everything on that one-in-fourteen chance.
"It's you!—Spell Card [Magnet Induction], activate!"
He hurled the Spell Card forward, the induced magnetic force linking with the surviving [Alpha The Magnet Warrior] on the field.
[If you control a Level 4 or lower "Magnet Warrior" monster whose original Level is 4 or lower, you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Magnet Warrior" monster with a different name from your Deck.]
"By the effect of [Magnet Induction], I Special Summon [Beta The Magnet Warrior] from my Deck!"
[Beta The Magnet Warrior] Level 4│EARTH│Rock│1700 ATK
Drawn forth by magnetic induction, the second Magnet Warrior of a different form materialized from Liam's Deck.
"And now the third one—Normal Summon in Attack Position! [Gamma The Magnet Warrior]!"
[Gamma The Magnet Warrior] Level 4│EARTH│Rock│1500 ATK
The third Magnet Warrior of yet another form followed, materializing from Liam's hand.
"Three Magnet Warriors?" Miles raised an eyebrow.
Miles was well aware of the hidden mechanism behind the Magnet Warriors.
Only by assembling all three forms—Alpha, Beta, and Gamma—could their true battle form be awakened.
"This is my full power. Not Fusion, but combination! Three as one—reveal the war god born of magnetic detonation!"
Within the erupting magnetic field, the three Magnet Warriors of differing forms transformed and linked together, ultimately combining into a brand-new composite form.
"Magnetic Storm Combination!—Valkyrion the Magna Warrior!"
[Valkyrion the Magna Warrior] Level 8│EARTH│Rock│Effect│3500 ATK
[Cannot be Normal Summoned. Must be Special Summoned by Tributing 1 each of "Alpha The Magnet Warrior", "Beta The Magnet Warrior", and "Gamma The Magnet Warrior" from your hand or field.]
Spreading magnetic wings and wielding a magnetized greatsword, the three-in-one Special Summon shed the clumsy Magnet Warrior appearance and fused into the strikingly handsome Valkyrion form.
With its final combined Attack of 3500, yet another monster had surpassed the Attack of Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
"Are this year's first-years all monsters?!" The surrounding spectators couldn't help but exclaim.
"I finally did it!" Liam's fingertips trembled with excitement. This was the first time he had successfully completed the combination summon of Valkyrion.
"A four-for-one summon… I'll give you that." Miles's expression finally grew serious. "To be honest, I admit I underestimated you before, Liam."
Even though it was still within first-year standards, looking at it longitudinally… at this point in his first year, Kevin Seth hadn't even summoned Red-Eyes Black Dragon yet.
And now Liam had managed to 'combine-summon' the 3500-ATK [Valkyrion the Magna Warrior].
Perhaps this guy's potential truly was as the rumors claimed—higher than Kevin Seth's.
Anyhow, Kevin himself probably wouldn't mind. After all, Kevin had always said that he was never a genius.
Not a genius… yet still capable of slaying gods.
"I'll defeat you, Miles! With this [Valkyrion the Magna Warrior]!"
Declaring entry into the Battle Phase, Valkyrion swung its blade with 3500 Attack, slashing toward the Joan on Miles's field.
As long as [D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc] was destroyed, Miles would suffer the backlash effects of two Contract cards on his next turn.
That kind of side effect was something Miles, with only 1000 Life Points remaining, could never withstand.
"Carve out victory! Magnetic War-God Blade!!"
"By first-year standards, that really is impressive… but it's still not enough. Counterattack, Joan!"
Drawing her holy sword, [D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc] clashed blades with [Valkyrion the Magna Warrior], the two swords colliding head-on.
"This is the final Contract card! Continuous Trap Card [Dark Contract with the Witch], activate!"
A Contract forged with the Witch of legend, who guided heroic souls into Valhalla.
The power of the Witch allowed the destruction of one card on the field by discarding a "D/D" card or a "Contract" card from the hand.
However, Miles no longer had any 'ammunition' left to activate that effect.
Between the two "D/D" monsters in his Deck and the three Contract cards he had synthesized through borrowing yesterday, all had already been used.
But the Contract bearing the Witch's name had another effect beyond destruction.
[As long as this card remains in the Spell & Trap Zone, Fiend monsters you control gain 1000 Attack during your opponent's turn.]
"In the name of the Witch, grant the heroes' holy swords the blessing of counterattack!"
[D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc, ATK: 2800 → 3800]
"—Oracle Charge!!"
In the clash, the magnetized greatsword in Valkyrion's hands was shattered by Joan's counter-slash, empowered by the Witch's blessing.
The sword energy that pierced through instead carried away 300 of Liam's Life Points.
[Liam, LP: 2000 → 1700]
The shock of the battle damage washed over Liam's body, his pupils dilating in an instant.
In that exchange alone, the gap between them was painfully clear.
What was supposed to be his all-out, limit-breaking strike with Valkyrion posed no real threat before Miles—casually and effortlessly blocked.
Why could a commoner duelist be this strong?
"Am I… dreaming?"
Staring at the shattered blade of Valkyrion on the field, Liam couldn't help but let out a bitter smile.
Even with such an overwhelming gap, family honor demanded that he continue fighting.
If he truly surrendered to a commoner duelist, the Carl family would likely never be able to hold its head high again.
"The effect of Spell Card [Magnet Induction]! The turn this card is activated, my Magnet Warrior monsters cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects!"
The destruction resistance granted by Magnet Induction allowed [Valkyrion the Magna Warrior] to remain on the field despite having its Attack surpassed, enduring the turn's battle in a state of electromagnetic damage.
"My turn ends."
Liam declared the end of his turn.
Because the Attack boost from [Dark Contract with the Witch] only applied during the opponent's turn, Joan's Attack had not truly surpassed Valkyrion's in a lasting sense.
Coupled with the presence of the Continuous Trap [Depth Amulet] in the back row, which could negate monster attacks, he might not be able to win for now—but he wouldn't lose either!
"My turn, draw!"
Drawing the card at the start of his turn, Miles entered the Standby Phase.
At the same time, the backlash effects of the three Contract cards on the field activated.
[During your Standby Phase: You take 1000 damage.]
A total of 3000 effect damage—damage that should have been fatal—was fully overturned by the presence of [D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc].
"As long as [D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc] remains face-up on my field, all effect damage becomes Life Point recovery!—Life Elation!"
[Miles, LP: 1000 → 4000]
The backlash from the three Contract cards transformed into a torrential flood of life force surging into Miles's body.
A massive heal in one gulp sent his Life Points skyrocketing straight back to the pre-nerf standard of 4000.
Not only had he dominated Liam throughout the duel, his Life Points had actually increased the longer it went on.
This duel had become incomprehensible. Was this really still a first-year duel?
"About time to put an end to this farce."
Miles looked at the two cards in his hand.
Aside from the D/D cards, this Deck contained another engine altogether.
In fact, that engine made up the majority of the Deck.
It was only because of Miles' stronger bond with D/D that the mere five D/D cards and Contracts had been drawn into his hand first.
"Since you've completed your combination, then I'll do a combination of my own!"
Gripping a card between his fingers, Miles flung forth a Spell that bloomed with cosmic radiance.
"A cosmic-scale combination!—Spell Card [Drytron Nova], activate!"
[Special Summon 1 "Drytron" monster from your Deck. Destroy that monster during the End Phase.]
Miles' other engine—the one registered as his Deck upon enrollment—Drytron.
With only a 20-card Deck, daring to hybridize D/D/D and Drytron together was something only Miles could pull off.
"The first star shining in Draco!—Special Summon [Drytron Alpha Thuban]!"
[Drytron Alpha Thuban] Level 1│LIGHT│Machine│2000 ATK
A high-mobility, spacefaring dragon-shaped combat unit, Drytron Alpha Thuban burst onto the battlefield with a dazzling body of light.
"A Level 1 monster with 2000 Attack?!"
"Hey, aren't Level 1 monsters supposed to be trash?"
The Drytron Summon shattered conventional wisdom, its shock no less than the arrival of D/D/D earlier.
Blinking her golden eyes, little Nova once again fell into confusion. "Drytron… this isn't Dragon-Type either."
"Next, I activate the effect of [Drytron Zeta Aldhibah] in my Graveyard!"
The Drytron monster Miles had sent to the Graveyard last turn via [D/D/D Dragon King Pendragon]'s effect now leapt back into action.
[You can Tribute 1 other "Drytron" or Ritual Monster from your hand or field; Special Summon this card from your hand or Graveyard in Defense Position. Then, you can add 1 Ritual Spell Card from your Deck to your hand.]
"I Tribute [Drytron Meteonis Quadrantids] from my hand and Special Summon [Drytron Zeta Aldhibah] from the Graveyard!"
[Drytron Zeta Aldhibah] Level 1│LIGHT│Machine│2000 ATK
"And by the effect of [Drytron Zeta Aldhibah], I add the Ritual Spell [Meteonis Drytron] from my Deck to my hand!"
With all preparations complete, a sudden 180-degree turn caught everyone utterly off guard.
Switching battle modes from D/D/D to Drytron took Miles only an instant—just two cards.
"It's time to combine, stars!—Ritual Spell [Meteonis Drytron], activate!"
[Tribute Machine monsters from your hand or field whose total Attack is equal to or greater than the Attack of the Ritual Monster you Ritual Summon from your hand or Graveyard.]
Drytron's exclusive Ritual Spell—no longer a Ritual that accumulated Levels, but one that accumulated Attack instead.
"The combined Attack of [Drytron Alpha Thuban] and [Drytron Zeta Aldhibah] is 4000! I Ritual Summon the 4000-ATK [Drytron Meteonis Quadrantids] from my Graveyard!"
As the stars scattered across the cosmos, the light of Draco blazed forth. Guided by [Meteonis Drytron], the two Drytron Machines combined and transformed.
Through the core amplification of low-Level Drytrons, a MAX-level star-forged mechanical dragon was awakened—the ultimate fully armed existence.
While D/D/D ruled over all Summoning methods, it alone lacked Ritual Summoning. Drytron's presence perfectly filled in that final missing piece.
"Memories slumbering among the stars—awaken! In the instant flash of a comet, shine like a meteor!—Ritual Summon, descend! [Drytron Meteonis Quadrantids]!!"
[Drytron Meteonis Quadrantids] Level 12│LIGHT│Machine│Ritual│4000 ATK
[This card Ritual Summoned by "Meteonis Drytron" cannot be targeted by your opponent's Spell/Trap effects.]
With 4000 Attack and Defense, at the maximum Level 12, a colossal star-shining mechanical dragon—formed using two Level 1 Drytrons as its core—descended as Miles' signature combined monster.
The Fusion Academy students watching nearly dropped their jaws.
4000 Attack. Level 12. A monster on par with legend… was this really a summon a first-year could perform?
An already incomprehensible first-year duel now marched toward its finale, evolving into something even more outrageous.
"I activate the effect of [Drytron Meteonis Quadrantids]!"
[If the total Levels of the monsters used for this card's Ritual Summon is 2 or lower, destroy all Spell/Trap Cards your opponent controls.]
The Ritual using two Level 1 Drytrons perfectly satisfied the condition for a back-row wipe.
"—Draconis Meteor Bombardment!"
[Depth Amulet] destroyed
All of Liam's defenses were shattered by this cosmic, transcendent combination.
Whether it was the Continuous Trap that could negate attacks, or the combined 3500-ATK Valkyrion… Both were overwhelmed by Miles from start to finish.
I can't win.
From the depths of his heart, Liam arrived at that realization as a duelist.
The gap was simply too vast… no amount of stubborn pride could change this ending.
He was too strong. Never before had any duelist pushed Liam to such complete, wholehearted defeat.
"That settles it. Battle!"
Riding atop the colossal star-forged mechanical dragon that had broken through every obstacle, Miles now advanced to break through Liam as well.
"Feel the bombardment of the Draco constellation's stars! Combined collision!—Draco Stellar Burst!"
Amid the shining stars, the 4000-ATK [Quadrantids] condensed a star-annihilating burst within its Drytron reactor, then unleashed it upon the opposing combined monster—the 3500-ATK [Valkyrion the Magna Warrior].
[Valkyrion the Magna Warrior] destroyed
The star-shattering brilliance engulfed the Duel Arena, a pillar of light surging skyward—no one would believe this was a first-year practical test duel.
"AAAAAAAH!!"
[Liam, LP: 1700 → 1200]
Blasted backward by the violent stellar bombardment, Liam rolled several times before he could even regain his footing—only to be met by judgment from the holy sword.
"Direct attack with [D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc]!—Blade of the Crimson Saint!"
"AAAAAAAH!!"
[Liam, LP: 1200 → 0]
From the very start, Miles had never intended to hold back—this was a total victory that left his opponent unable to fight back.
Even after the duel ended, Miles still stood with a higher Life Point total than at the beginning—4000.
"You fought beautifully! Beautifully, Miles! I absolutely love you~"
Staring at her witch's hat stuffed full of gold coins, Irena's smile was impossible to suppress.
