Chapter 357 The Beach
Chapter 357 The Beach
A-Yue couldn't bear to see him like this, so she took out a piece of silver and said, "What do you want to eat? It's on me! But you can only order one dish, the food in this godforsaken place is too expensive."
A plate of clams costs five coins.
"Where did you get the money? You can't steal it, and you didn't even save up any for your own dowry." Ah Xing looked at her speechlessly.
Ah Yue laughed instead, "I stole your money, so of course I'll let you spend it. Why would I save that kind of money? In our line of work, who knows what tomorrow will bring!"
Ah Xing remained silent for a while. After a while, he saw someone leave the table in front of him and go out. He put down his steamed bun and quickly followed.
He returned shortly afterward.
"Where did you go..." A-Yue asked curiously.
"Nothing much... Let's order," Ah Xing chuckled, pulled out a wad of silver from his pocket, and stuffed it into Ah Yue's hand. "Here you go! Spend it all you want."
A-Yue's eyes crinkled into a smile. "You stole it again? I hope no one will find out."
"Of course not. I hired someone to hit him, we split the money, and I even lost my purse." Ah Xing winked.
Zhao Yang quickly ordered several more dishes, as the steamed buns were indeed not very tasty.
Jiangyue Tower.
Chen Wenfang, a newcomer, was stunned by everything she saw. The Jiang family was truly wealthy; this was real worldly riches. Her own teahouse was like a bustling market. But then again, there are always different kinds of life in the world. She should bring the children here to see it sometime.
As you ascend the winding staircase, the scenery changes with each step; the design is truly ingenious.
"Madam Chen, please have a seat! I specially ordered some of our specialties for you today. Please try them. Also, our wine, although it can't compare to yours, is smooth and mellow on the palate."
"Young Master Jiang is too modest!" Chen Wenfang didn't even look at the dishes on the table; she was looking into the distance. "Is that the seaside?"
"Yes, Madam Chen has never been to the seaside?"
"No~" Chen Wenfang murmured to herself, her mind already wandering...
"After we finish eating, I'll take you to see it..." Jiang Mingxin said with a smile.
"Then thank you very much, Young Master Jiang." Chen Wenfang withdrew her gaze. The table was full of Fujian delicacies, the most eye-catching of which was Buddha Jumps Over the Wall in the middle. This dish, which she had only seen on TV, was now right in front of her.
Caiyue lifted the lid of the Buddha Jumps Over the Wall soup and poured a bowl for Chen Wenfang. The rich aroma instantly filled the air, a taste like a wondrous feast of spices celebrating on the taste buds. The soup was amber in color, thick and viscous, like the finest nectar. The ingredients were layered and delicious: the scallops were as translucent as pearls, the sea cucumber was tender and elastic, the abalone was firm and plump, and the pigeon eggs were round and adorable.
The entire dish is like a magnificent painting, vibrant yet harmoniously blended. Chen Wenfang gently scoops a spoonful of soup into her mouth, its rich and mellow flavor spreading across her tongue. The interplay of the various ingredients' freshness creates an atmosphere reminiscent of a culinary paradise, leaving a lingering aftertaste that makes one want to keep eating, immersing oneself in this exquisite taste.
As expected of one of the top ten famous dishes in China, Chen Wenfang couldn't help but drink two bowls.
Jiang Mingxin didn't mean to mock her at all. "When Jin'er first drank this soup, he felt the same way you did. Now I know why he likes you so much."
Chen Wenfang said with shame, "I'm sorry you had to see this." After saying that, she looked at the wine in her hand and realized that it was indeed not as clear as the wine she had brewed herself.
Chen Wenfang downed the wine in one gulp and laughed, “This wine only needs a little purification, it’s very simple. Even if you asked me to taste one, two, or three different flavors, I wouldn’t be able to tell. Most ladies prefer sweet wine, and I’m no exception.”
After saying that, he took out a few sheets of paper from his pocket and said, "Young Master Jiang is an expert in brewing, so I won't pretend to be an expert. These are the blueprints for my distillation equipment. You'll understand once you take a look."
"Oh?" Jiang Mingxin took the blueprint, and in just a few seconds, he understood, utterly astonished. "This is actually so simple!!"
Chen Wenfang smiled and said, "It's actually very simple. It's just that there are some things I just can't think of right away."
Jiang Ming thought to himself, "Then I wonder if Madam Chen would have time to come to my brewery tomorrow to offer some guidance?"
"Young Master Jiang is too kind. With over a hundred years of experience in your distillery, how could I dare to interfere? But you can take these blueprints and try them out. The older the wine, the more substantial it becomes, with its own inherent depth. New things are certainly good, but the old methods are the true flavor, and people will still appreciate them." Chen Wenfang recalled the aged wines of his previous life; the 1935 Moutai was priceless and unavailable.
A glint flashed in Jiang Mingxin's eyes, and he bowed respectfully with his hands clasped, "Thank you, my lady, I have learned a great deal!"
He really did have the idea of replacing all those workshops.
After finishing her business, Chen Wenfang got up and said goodbye to Jiang Mingxin. She was going to the beach, her sandy shore. Here she comes!
Since Chen Wenfang wanted to go out and have fun on her own, Jiang Mingxin understood and asked Jiang Hai to drive the children over, while Jiang He would take Chen Wenfang to the beach. This arrangement was excellent, and Chen Wenfang bowed and thanked him.
The seaside wasn't far, only a few miles away. Just as Chen Wenfang was about to get out of the car, Caiyun thoughtfully took out a veiled hat.
"My lady, take this with you; the sun is too strong."
"Hehe, thank you, Caiyun." Chen Wenfang smiled and accepted the ornament, putting it on her head.
Caiyun paused for a moment, then smiled and replied, "You're too kind, my lady."
Perhaps the locals are used to beaches, and the tourism industry hasn't developed the beach area. The sun is strong, and the boundless beach looks like a white ribbon, winding between the sea and the sky, stretching as far as the eye can see.
Chen Wenfang took off her shoes, and Jiang He, who was waiting by the carriage, immediately turned his head away. However, Chen Wenfang ignored him, and walked on the soft and dense sand, leaving a shallow footprint with each step.
Looking into the distance, apart from the layers of white waves crashing in, there were hardly any people in sight. The distant sea merged with the blue sky, and occasionally a few seagulls would soar across the horizon, uttering a few clear cries, which only accentuated the tranquility and vastness of the beach.
The sea breeze blew freely, and Chen Wenfang opened her arms wide. The wind lifted her dress, making her look like a butterfly about to take flight.
"Haha!" Chen Wenfang chuckled softly, strolling leisurely along the beach, letting the fine sand kiss her toes...
Before long, Jiang Hai arrived with a cart full of people. Before the cart had even come to a complete stop, Chen Xuanyu leaned out of the window and shouted happily, "Hahaha, Da Hai, I'm here!"
As soon as the carriage came to a stop, several children scurried out, including Xiao Bo and Juan'er. Behind them, Aunt Hu and Uncle Hu also arrived.
Jiang Hai is so thoughtful; I really don't know how he managed to squeeze three adults and five children into one carriage.
As soon as Chen Xuanyu got out of the car, he kicked off both of his shoes without saying a word. The other kids followed suit and kicked off their shoes as well.
"This is the ocean! So much water!" Xiao Hao and Shiwu quickly ran to the edge.
Chen Wenfang yelled from behind, "Don't go too far! You can't go into the sea! You'll fall in!"
Chu Yi was also taking off his shoes. "Don't worry, godmother, I'll go and keep an eye on them!" he said and then chased after them.
"Wow, so white, so big! Is this the ocean?" Juan'er exclaimed in amazement.
