Chapter 137 The Substitute Little Princess 24
Chapter 137 The Substitute Little Princess 24
Field looked in the direction of the sound. The girl was wearing a black strapless rose dress with puffed hem. Her skin was as white as snow, her soft red lips were slightly pursed, her delicate eyebrows matched her emerald eyes perfectly, and a bright red rose was hovering on her chest.
Field felt his chest beating differently than usual. He had seen many women, but none of them was like Chris. Her innocent face was filled with innocence and charm that made men eager to move.
Field had a gentle smile on his lips, then he stood up and half-knelt in front of Tao Yao, holding the back of her hand and leaving a kiss on it. His blue eyes were filled with irresistible tenderness and affection.
"Beautiful butterfly, long time no see."
Taoyao always felt that Field and Edward were very similar, not just in appearance. They both gave her a very similar feeling at certain moments. She later attributed this feeling to the fact that they were half-brothers, so it was normal for them to be similar in some ways.
But whenever the two of them appeared in front of her at the same time, her heart became wavering, not knowing which side to lean towards. This feeling was like a complete thing being split into two halves. Although they had a common consciousness, they were actually still one entity in essence.
Taoyao's right hand was kissed by Field, and her left hand was taken by Edward and kissed. The two of them were like naive children who both fell in love with the same toy.
There was murderous intent in Edward's eyes. He took out a white handkerchief from his chest pocket and wiped Taoyao's hand heavily where Field had kissed her.
"It's better to wipe it clean. Who knows how many women some people have kissed with their mouths. There might be bacteria in their mouths. What if you get infected and get sick?"
Field didn't get angry but smiled, and a dark light flashed in his deep sapphire eyes.
"Edward, have you been busy with schoolwork lately? I heard you won first place in the fencing competition. I haven't congratulated you yet. I was also good at fencing when I was in school. Why don't we play together sometime?"
Anna and Pauline looked at each other, then covered their mouths and laughed. This scene was really like two young and energetic boys declaring war on each other in order to compete for their beloved girl.
Pauline stepped forward to smooth things over for Edward. Although Edward did not grow up by her side, she would occasionally come to see him, and the relationship between mother and son grew stronger. One was Field, whom she had watched grow up, and the other was her biological son. She loved both of them, so she naturally couldn't bear to watch the two brothers killing each other.
"Field, Edward has only just started fencing and is still a little green. He's nowhere near as good as you. Don't hurt the relationship. It's uncomfortable for your aunt to see you two cousins fighting. Let's eat."
The smile on Field's face suddenly turned cold. "I'll listen to my aunt. Let's eat."
Pauline winked at Edward, signaling him to be more restrained and not be so presumptuous. Field was now in a high position. If it weren't for her, how could Field be so tolerant of Edward?
Field's ruthless methods in recent years are enough to daunt people. Someone once publicly opposed Field in parliament, and the next day that person was sent to prison for corruption and bribery, and he went crazy not long after.
Field is a ruthless person and his hands are never stained with blood, but no one who opposes him has a good ending. Field is not a fool. He should have known long ago that Edward is his biological brother, but he did not point it out directly because of Pauline.
At the dining table, Tao Yao ate quietly. She was too lazy to pay attention to the two men who were secretly competing with each other.
Pauline looked at the beautiful Taoyao. As Edward's mother, she naturally knew what her son was thinking. Edward liked Taoyao, and she was also very satisfied with Taoyao, but Anna would never agree to the two of them being together.
Anna treated Edward as her own son, and she certainly could not accept that brother and sister became husband and wife. This matter also gave her a headache. Edward had a stubborn temper, and if he could not be with Taoyao, he might do something horrific and stupid in anger.
Molly sat quietly in the corner eating, trying her best to minimize her presence.
But the next second, Anna seemed to notice her.
"Molly, have you been keeping up with your studies lately? Mommy's been too busy lately to take care of you. How about I take you out for a trip next month so you can relax and unwind?"
Molly wiped her mouth and replied to Anna with a respectful smile.
"Okay, Mom, I'm doing well in school. My teacher said I can apply to a good university."
Anna smiled with relief after hearing this. Molly was a cautious child at home, and usually well-behaved and sensible. She would chat and play with Chris when she had time. She really hoped that Molly could be closer to her, but maybe because of Angel's incident before, Molly still had some grudges against them.
"That's great. By the way, Chris, how do you want to celebrate your coming-of-age ceremony? Do you want a party? Invite all your close friends. Your grandparents said they want to come celebrate with you, too. Dad will fly over to see you, too."
Anna and Chris's father had divorced a few years ago, but they were afraid that she would not be able to accept it, so they never told her. Tao Yao had actually guessed it a long time ago. How could a couple be so inseparable after being separated for several years, and they were surrounded by a bunch of flowers and plants.
Tao Yao chewed the lettuce in her mouth with a lack of interest. "Don't bother. I don't have any friends coming. I don't want to be laughed at by others. Those people are just the audience you invited. They are not really here to celebrate my coming-of-age ceremony."
After Tao Yao finished speaking, the atmosphere at the scene fell into silence. Anna felt a sense of depression in her chest. She didn't expect Tao Yao to react so strongly, nor did she expect her to be so averse to this party.
It seemed that she had really ignored her feelings in the past few years. Anna's tears fell on the plate in front of her, and Pauline comforted her with some sadness.
"Anna, don't cry. Chris may be feeling a little uncomfortable. It's okay. She's a sensible and good child. This is not your fault. You didn't want this to happen. We are all mothers. I know how you feel."
Pauline patted the back of Anna's hand comfortingly, and Anna covered her mouth with a handkerchief and began to cry bitterly.
"It was my fault for ignoring Chris. Don't blame her. It was my fault."
Pauline glanced at Taoyao and said, "Chris, your mother wouldn't want this to happen either. You shouldn't have said that. Apologize to your mother now."
Tao Yao lowered her head with dim eyes, and the apology came out of her mouth. She was numb. This seemingly happy mother-daughter relationship was actually already riddled with holes.
"I'm sorry, Mom. I was wrong. I shouldn't have said that. Please forgive me."
Even Molly could see that Taoyao was in a bad mood. Was it really okay for her to just accept other people's arrangements like a puppet and not even be allowed to lose her temper?
