Chapter 251 Wrong Chapter
Chapter 251 Wrong Chapter
(I posted the wrong chapter, so I can only use this to reach the word count. Why can't Tomato delete the wrong chapter? It's a headache.)
The Servant system was prepared by the "founding three families" for the Holy Grail War, a system used to summon and serve Heroic Spirits as Servants. Thus, the summoned Heroic Spirits cooperate with their Masters to fight against other Servants. Utilizing the phenomenon of the souls of the ultimately deceased Servants returning to the "Throne of Heroes," the Greater Grail is used to fix the "hole connecting to the outside world" leading to the Root. This is the complete picture of the Servant system. However, in the Holy Grail Wars to date, the hole leading to the Root has never been opened. Each time, some unforeseen event or failure has occurred. The Holy Grail War's 200-year history is not particularly long from a magical perspective. In short, the Holy Grail War still has many problems to solve.

The difference between "Heroic Spirits" and "Servants"
Heroic Spirits are spirit-like beings who, after their deaths, became legends and objects of worship, transformed into heroes whose great achievements became objects of worship. Generally, spirit summoning techniques can only utilize a small portion of a Heroic Spirit's power to trigger miracles. The Servants appearing in Fuyuki City are directly connected to the Heroic Spirits themselves, summoned from the Throne of Heroes by the Holy Grail and given physical bodies, serving as familiars to magus. Heroes possess pride and dignity, making it difficult for them to obey the commands of ordinary humans; therefore, the Holy Grail grants magus three Command Seals to control their Servants. Each Command Seal has absolute authority over the Servant.
Call of Heroes
Heroic Spirits are beings separated from the timeline; they can be summoned to all eras, whether past or future. However, only the "world" can summon the true form of a Heroic Spirit. Unfortunately, humans cannot summon the true form of a Heroic Spirit, but can only summon Servants as their avatars. Incidentally, the information (soul) that constitutes a Servant returns to the original Servant upon the Servant's death, allowing the original Servant to know the Servant's actions in a recorded manner, much like reading a book.
Servant's Summoning
First, the Master performs a ritual to intervene with the Greater Grail, which borrows information from the Heroic Spirit residing on the Throne of Heroes. This information (the purest soul of the Heroic Spirit) is then infused into the framework of "Class," creating a Heroic Spirit clone—the Servant. Because Servants are unstable beings that shouldn't exist in the world, they must rely on a Master, maintaining a fixed coordinate relative to the world. The Master also supplies the Servant with magical energy.
During the ritual, a catalyst with a connection to the desired Heroic Spirit is prepared, which allows the summoning of the specified Heroic Spirit. Without a catalyst, a Heroic Spirit with good compatibility with the Master will be summoned. If the catalyst corresponds to multiple Heroic Spirits (e.g., the gates of Troy, a symbol of the Trojan War), a Heroic Spirit with good compatibility with the Master will be selected from the candidates.
Normally, summonable Servants are uniformly humanoid in appearance. However, it seems to be related to the Master's mental state at the time of summoning; under certain conditions, Servants that are not humanoid can appear. These Servants are based on concepts and phenomena.
Summoning Ritual
Summoning a Servant requires a complex magical ritual. The compatibility between the archetype Heroic Spirit and the summoner in spirit and body goes without saying, but most importantly, it requires a catalyst with a deep connection to the Heroic Spirit. Summoning a Servant is a ritual beyond human capability, but the Greater Grail makes it possible.
Since the summoning itself is performed by the Greater Grail, the Master does not need to hold such a large-scale ceremony. However, if one wants to gain the upper hand in the battle, one must prepare the catalyst and carefully select the Servants to be summoned.
Magic Circle
Using fresh blood, mercury, dissolved gems, and other materials, magic circles are inscribed on the ground. Summoning circles consist of four "retreat" circles surrounding a "spirit summoning" circle; this summoning system was created by the Einzbern family, one of the three great imperial families.
