Chapter 284: Seraphina
Chapter 284: Seraphina
Once he was finished with Alexi, Jax left the room, and began heading to the Medical District once more to check up on the people he saved.
Morning light spilled softly through the towering windows of the Demon Capital’s medical district, casting warm golden reflections across polished stone floors and shimmering healing arrays.
Throughout this district, quiet conversations echoed through the halls. Healers moved between chambers with practiced efficiency.
Restoration magic pulsed gently through the air like a steady heartbeat, washing the entire structure in calm mana.
Jax walked through the corridors without rushing, servants and attendants immediately bowed the moment they noticed him approaching.
"Your Majesty."
Jax gave a small nod in acknowledgment as he continued forward.
His golden eyes drifted briefly across the surrounding chambers as he passed. The rescued Demons were recovering well already. He could sense it clearly.
Their mana pathways were stabilizing and the fear and exhaustion lingering in their bodies had begun to fade, which was good, as that was all that mattered.
Still, Jax’s steps never slowed and his destination remained fixed. It was the room where the Merfolk Princess was staying.
By the time he reached the private recovery wing, the atmosphere had changed again, everything was much quieter and more peaceful.
A pair of healers stationed outside the chamber immediately straightened upon seeing him.
"Your Majesty."
"How is she?" Jax asked immediately.
One of the healers smiled faintly as she heard that question, nodding and immediately responding, "Fully stabilized."
Jax’s eyes narrowed slightly as he heard that, "Fully?"
The healer nodded, "Your healing last night accelerated her recovery tremendously. Physically, she’s completely healthy now. She simply needs rest,"
The second healer spoke next, "She was awake earlier this morning, though she repeatedly asked whether you would return."
Jax blinked once as he heard that, "...Did she?"
The healers exchanged a faintly amused glance at his question, "Several times."
Jax exhaled quietly through his nose.
"...I see."
Without another word, he stepped toward the door. The healers moved aside immediately to let him in and the chamber opened silently.
Warm light greeted him first.
The room itself was peaceful, elegant without being excessive. Soft curtains drifted lightly beside open windows, letting fresh air flow through the chamber. Healing crystals embedded into the walls glowed faintly with ambient restorative mana.
And near the center of the room, the little Merfolk Princess sat atop the large bed he had left her in the previous night.
Her vibrant purple hair fell loosely around her shoulders now, noticeably cleaner and healthier than before. The exhaustion that had weighed her down yesterday was gone.
She looked... alive again, and she hurriedly turned around at the sound of the door opening, spotting Jax, and then her eyes widened.
"Jax!"
Before he could even properly react, she launched herself off the bed. Tiny footsteps rushed across the room, and then...
~THUMP!~
She crashed directly into him, wrapping both arms tightly around his waist.
Jax looked down in mild surprise as the small Princess buried her face against him immediately.
"You came back..." she mumbled softly.
Her grip tightened almost instantly afterward, as though she feared he might disappear if she loosened it even slightly.
Jax stared at her for a moment.
Then sighed quietly.
"...Yeah."
One of his hands moved almost automatically, resting gently atop her head.
"Told you I would."
The girl looked up at him then, her large violet eyes bright in a way they hadn’t been yesterday.
"You really came back..."
Jax raised an eyebrow slightly.
"Was planning to."
That earned a tiny smile from her, and the healers standing nearby visibly relaxed seeing the interaction.
"She’s been much calmer since waking," one of them explained.
"Though..." the other healer hesitated slightly.
Jax glanced over.
"Though?"
"She refused to leave the room unless she knew where you were."
The Princess immediately looked embarrassed.
"I-I did not!"
The healers smiled politely.
"You absolutely did."
Her cheeks puffed slightly as she tightened her grip around Jax again in protest.
Jax chuckled quietly under his breath.
"...Seems like you caused them trouble."
She shook her head rapidly.
"No! I was good!"
The healers exchanged another look.
"She was actually very well behaved," one admitted.
"Just... attached."
The little Princess immediately buried her face back into Jax’s clothes again.
Jax sighed once more, though there was clear amusement in his eyes now.
"...Right."
The healers stepped forward slightly afterward.
"As we mentioned earlier, Your Majesty, she’s physically healthy now."
The lead healer gestured gently toward the Princess.
"However, we still recommend rest for several days."
Jax nodded once.
"Understood."
"Minimal stress," the healer continued.
"No mana strain, and no emotional shocks if possible."
Jax’s gaze drifted downward briefly toward the girl still attached to him like she planned to remain there permanently.
"...That might be difficult."
The Princess immediately shook her head.
"I’m not stressful!"
Jax looked at her flatly.
"You tackled me the second I opened the door."
"...That’s different."
The room fell briefly silent before one of the healers accidentally laughed.
The Princess looked horrified for a second.
Jax smirked faintly.
"...You’re definitely feeling better."
She huffed quietly.
After a moment, Jax looked back toward the healers.
"Thanks for taking care of her."
Both healers immediately bowed slightly.
"It’s our duty, Your Majesty."
Still, he could tell they appreciated hearing it.
Once the conversation settled, Jax’s attention returned fully to the girl in front of him.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then Jax finally crouched slightly so he was closer to eye level with her.
"...You know," he said calmly.
"I just realized something."
The Princess blinked.
"What?"
"I don’t actually know your name."
That seemed to catch her off guard.
Her violet eyes widened slightly.
"Oh..."
For a second, she looked oddly nervous. Then quietly, she answered,
"...Seraphina."
Jax repeated it once internally and his gaze softened slightly, "Pretty name."
The small Princess blinked rapidly, clearly not expecting that response.
"R-Really?"
Jax nodded once.
"Yeah."
A faint blush spread across her cheeks almost instantly.
Jax smirked slightly at the reaction before straightening fully again.
"Well," he said.
"Guess I should introduce myself properly too."
Seraphina looked up at him attentively.
"My name’s Jax."
Her expression immediately shifted.
"...I know."
Jax blinked once.
"Oh?"
She nodded rapidly.
"The Demon King."
