Chapter 1288: The Reincarnated Saintess
Chapter 1288: The Reincarnated Saintess
Idrilla Ivy-Rose Rivera. The ’Saintess Of All Those Who Have Died’.
She had once been a 23-year-old woman whom Evan encountered within a Dimensional Realm on Prime World Aramis during his misadventures 10,000 years back into the past.
She had been the Guardian of Iklaque, a hidden Dimensional Realm, bound to it through an Oath she never chose and could not break without forfeiting her only path to reincarnation into a better life, forced to fight off against outsiders for 13 years, all because of Iklaque’s traditions that branded her an ’Unholy Child’.
Her meeting with Evan, Arthur, Artemisia, and Beatrix had been ill-fated, and even though she had no desire to fight them, her Oath compelled her to do so regardless, even while she knew she could not guarantee victory against the four teens.
What followed was one of the most difficult battles Evan fought during his time in the past, with Idrilla resurrecting enemies who had died by their hands and releasing them inside a Bounded Field that stretched for kilometres in every direction.
She’d fought cleverly and without restraint, and it had taken everything the four of them had to bring her down.
When it ended, Evan was the one who delivered the final blow, stabbing his blade through her chest without using his destruction essence so her soul would remain intact, and her chance at reincarnation into a better life wouldn’t be taken from her.
Idrilla’s last words in that life hadn’t been a plea for mercy, but a screaming demand that Evan and Arthur slaughter every last person in Iklaque and make them suffer for everything they had put her through.
Arthur and Evan had been so stunned by those words, and Idrilla had laughed at their shocked expressions all the way until she took her final breath.
Evan burned her body with his prismatic flames afterwards, and Arthur made good on her final wish not long after, razing Iklaque to the ground in a battle against its Chief Priest that left the city in ruins and not a soul standing.
That was supposed to be the end of their fate with Idrilla, but after the events of Cruotis Prime’s Apocalypse, Evan made a deal with the Eternal of Space and Reality to retrieve Idrilla’s soul and reincarnate her in the Year 1034, 22 years before the current time.
And now, before Evan stood the 21-year-old Idrilla, retaining her first name and appearance from her previous incarnation, and now bearing the last name ’Holt’.
"It’s been a while," Evan said, his smile turning mischievous. "Nice to see you again, Idrilla."
Idrilla was shocked, stunned, and confounded, several emotions passing through her at the same time at Evan’s sudden appearance before her.
"You! How dare—" Aldric suddenly began to shout, but Evan immediately turned toward him with a cold gaze, and the young man’s words caught in his throat.
The pressure of Evan’s magic-filled gaze was too heavy for him to withstand as he staggered, nearly falling onto his backside.
However, his loud outburst had helped Idrilla snap back into composure. All traces of disturbance in her expression vanished, and she opened her mouth to ask Evan why he was there, but someone else spoke before she could.
"That’s enough. This fiasco has gone on long enough."
At the sound of the voice, the eyes that had been focused on Evan finally noticed Sharon’s presence, and immediately, the lordlings and young ladies filling the hall began bowing their heads as they should in the presence of royalty.
Even Aldric Voss was no exception to this, despite being the son of a Duke.
Sharon, holding a folding fan in her left hand, smacked it against her right palm as she said, "The graduation eve party is a symbolic event that has proceeded without interruption for decades since the founding of this college, and today you’ve ruined it with your disgraceful conduct, Aldric Voss. Duke Voss will be disappointed."
Aldric’s expression contorted as he tried to speak, however, Sharon’s glare silenced him immediately, and the words he wanted to say could not leave his throat.
Seeing this, Evan whistled lightly and then muttered, "Somebody’s gonna get disowned."
He said it in a sing-song tone, but given the silence of the hall, his words echoed clearly, and at this, Sharon immediately turned her gaze toward him.
"Sir Evan, please."
Evan raised his hands in mock surrender, laughing lightly as he said, "Pardon me, Princess Sharon. I really intended to remain incognito until the end, but I couldn’t have expected that my acquaintance would end up going through such a foolish ordeal."
Glancing at Aldric and Mira while shaking his head lightly, he continued, "The actions of the Voss household’s third son have made my patience run very, very thin."
After saying that, he returned his gaze to Idrilla, closing the distance until there was barely a ruler’s worth of space between them as he said, "Once again, it’s nice to see you, Idrilla.
I trust you’ve been well since our last meeting, and I understand you likely have a lot of questions about why I’ve decided to appear before you today, but since this is the eve ball before you graduate from this institution, I’d like us to defer that conversation to a later date. Is that alright with you?"
Idrilla didn’t respond instantly, her obsidian eyes flicking toward Sharon. But before the princess could make any gesture in her direction, Evan moved his body and blocked Idrilla’s line of sight to Sharon as he asked, "Lady Idrilla?"
Clearly, he didn’t want any signals exchanged between the two young women.
At this, Idrilla exhaled softly and then said, "Yes, please. I would host you at the Holt estate in three days."
Hearing this, Evan clapped his hands once with a smile. "Brilliant! Then I’ll come bearing gifts to greet the Marquis and his wife."
He then turned around and looked at Sharon as he said, "Now then, I’ve met the acquaintance I came here to see, and I have no further business at the college today, so I shall take my leave, Princess Sharon. Please send my regards to His Majesty."
Evan extended his hand toward Sharon, and when she took it, he placed a kiss on the back of her palm and then whispered in a voice only she could hear, "And please do remind His Majesty of my earlier words today."
Sharon’s body shook lightly at Evan’s tone, but before she could speak, he stepped back with a bright smile on his face as he turned around and said, "Come on, Kayla, time to go."
He extended his right hand, and leaping over the crowd was a golden-furred cat with lightning sparks crackling around her tail.
She landed on his arm and ran up to his shoulder, perching there while nibbling on a cupcake, and with the crowd parting like the Red Sea, Evan made his exit from the hall while Princess Sharon watched in silence.
Evan’s final words lingered in her ears, and she understood exactly what he meant by them.
’He doesn’t want us to question Lady Holt to find out what their relationship is.’
That was a direct warning to the Royal Family, who would undoubtedly try to question Idrilla after this to uncover how she met Evan and what he could possibly want from her.
A Marquis warning the Royal Family of a world power nation was not something that would normally happen even if the moon rose at noon, but this Marquis was no ordinary Marquis and was an existence the Aelum Kingdom’s royal family could not afford to ignore.
