Chapter 311 is really handsome
Lin Yue withdrew her finger and stood up. Her gaze fell on Xu Yun's pale but peaceful sleeping face.
Xu Yun seemed to sense the gaze, her long eyelashes trembled a few times, and she slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Lin Yue's clear, deep eyes, which seemed to see through everything.
Overwhelmed by fear and shame, Xu Yun was instantly seized! She remembered what she looked like as a monster, her out-of-control killing, and the danger she had brought to Yun Yi... She instinctively wanted to dodge, to hide herself, her body trembling slightly.
However, a faint smile slowly and unusually appeared on Lin Yue's face, a smile that carried an all-knowing understanding and... undisguised admiration.
She leaned slightly closer to Xu Yun's ear, her voice soft yet clearly reaching Xu Yun and Yun Yi, who was holding her tightly:
"The way you protect others..."
"He's really handsome."
As soon as she finished speaking, Lin Yue straightened up, no longer looking at Xu Yun and Yun Yi, who were still in shock and disbelief. She turned around, and her figure quickly disappeared into the dim light, as if she had never been there. Only the two survivors remained, and that affirmation etched deep into Xu Yun's soul like a brand.
Yun Yi held Xu Yun in his arms, feeling her warm body temperature and steady breathing. Looking in the direction Lin Yue had disappeared, he was filled with indescribable gratitude. Xu Yun, on the other hand, stared blankly at the doorway where Lin Yue had disappeared.
The way he protects others...it's really cool.
Can she really do it too?
A moment later, the sound of sirens grew louder as several uniformed police officers solemnly parted the crowd. Behind them were members of the Knights Association, including Lu Feng, Chen Gang, and Lin Xiao.
Their gazes swept over the chaotic basement and the several gruesome corpses of human traffickers, finally settling on Xu Yun in Yun Yi's arms.
Zhuang Changwu also arrived. He walked at the front, his gaze lingering briefly on Xu Yun and Yun Yi before finally falling on the figure leaning against the only relatively intact earthen wall, seemingly out of place with the desolate surroundings.
"Senior is here too?" Zhuang Changwu was overjoyed. With Lin Yue here, nothing would be a problem.
“Xu Yun…” Lu Feng’s voice broke the silence, carrying a serious, businesslike tone, yet also containing a barely perceptible sigh, “We need your cooperation in the investigation.”
Chen Gang silently stared at Xu Yun's pale face and the glaring blood-stained clothes she wore, his fists clenching and unclenching. Lin Xiao stepped forward, her tone as gentle as possible: "Don't be afraid, come with us, we'll protect you."
Xu Yun's body trembled slightly in Yun Yi's arms. She slowly raised her head, and her eyes, which had been burning with hellfire not long ago but were now clear again, met the complicated gazes of the police and knights.
She understood what this meant. A trial. She had killed people, not just one.
No matter how deserving those people are, no matter how tragic her ordeal is, the legal process must eventually proceed.
She didn't struggle or argue; she simply nodded gently. It was a calm acceptance, tinged with the weariness of something finally settling down.
Yun Yi's arms tightened instinctively, his throat felt constricted, he wanted to say something, to defend her, to hide her away, but all his words seemed pale and powerless in the face of reality.
He could only watch helplessly as Lin Xiao reached out and carefully took the girl from his arms. Xu Yun's body left his embrace, taking with it a warm weight, and also the heart that had been hanging in his chest.
Two policewomen stepped forward, gently supporting Xu Yun's somewhat weak body, one on each side. Just as they were about to turn around and lead Xu Yun to the police car—
"Wait a moment!"
Xu Yun's voice wasn't loud, but it clearly pierced through the noise of the scene.
Everyone stopped what they were doing and focused their attention on her. She broke free from the policewoman's support, and although her steps were a little unsteady, she turned around with unusual determination and walked step by step toward Yun Yi, who was standing there in a daze.
Her face was still pale, but her eyes were surprisingly bright. As Yun Yi watched her approach step by step, his mind went blank and his heart pounded wildly in his chest.
He didn't know what she was going to do, and could only stare at her blankly.
Finally, she stopped in front of him, close enough to smell the faint scent of blood on her, along with a unique aroma that belonged to her. She looked up and gazed at him deeply, deeply.
The next second, to everyone's astonishment, Xu Yun stood on tiptoe!
Her movements were clumsy, typical of a young girl. Her soft, slightly cool lips trembled as she gently and quickly pressed them against Yun Yi's lips.
"Well?"
Time seemed to freeze at this moment.
Yun Yi's eyes widened suddenly, his pupils reflecting Xu Yun's face so close to his and her tightly closed eyelashes. A tingling, electric sensation instantly spread from his lips throughout his body, all his senses focused on that slightly cool, soft touch. His brain completely shut down, blood rushed to his cheeks, and his ears burned red.
The kiss was as brief as a dragonfly skimming the water, ending in an instant.
Xu Yun quickly took a step back, her cheeks flushed with a sunset-like blush that spread to her delicate earlobes. She dared not look into Yun Yi's shocked and unfocused eyes, and only managed to say to him clearly with all her might, "Thank you, Brother Yun Yi... Thank you, Sister Lin, thank you... for protecting me."
Her voice choked with sobs, and tears finally streamed down her face. She turned abruptly, without pausing, and strode quickly toward the waiting police car.
Yun Yi froze on the spot, as if he had been frozen in place. The lingering coolness on his lips burned like a brand. He raised his hand and unconsciously touched his lips, his fingertips trembling. His face was burning hot, and his heart was pounding wildly, as if it would jump out of his throat.
He watched as the policewoman carefully helped Xu Yun into the police car. The car door closed, shutting out her presence and all the turmoil brought about by that unexpected kiss.
The sirens blared again, red and blue lights flashed, and the convoy slowly started moving, disappearing into the dark road leading out of the mountains. The remaining police officers continued to arrest the criminals in the village. Zhuang Changwu also went to Lin Yue's side, and the two of them were talking about something.
Yun Yi remained standing in the same spot, like a forgotten stone statue. The evening breeze carried the coolness of the mountains and forests, but it couldn't dispel the burning heat on his face or the tangled emotions in his chest. Shock, bewilderment, a hidden tremor, and a deeper, indescribable sense of loss mingled together, almost overwhelming him.
