Chapter 304 Captured
Chapter 304 Captured
The door to Lin Yue's room wasn't opened until almost noon.
She walked out, still half asleep, wearing oversized loungewear and slippers, her hair a little messy.
Without even glancing at the living room, she went straight to the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, and took out a bottle of ice water.
Xu Yun had already changed into the new clothes Yun Yi had bought for her. The light gray T-shirt and dark blue sweatpants were simple, but they made her look much fresher and more energetic.
She was sitting nervously in a corner of the sofa when she saw Lin Yue come out. Her body tensed up instantly, like a frightened little rabbit. She subconsciously stood up, lowered her head, and nervously twisted the hem of her clothes with her fingers.
"Sister..." she greeted softly and timidly.
"Ah."
Lin Yue unscrewed the bottle cap, tilted her head back and took a few gulps of water. She simply hummed in response.
They didn't ask for my name, they didn't ask why I was there, and they didn't even show a trace of extra emotion.
Xu Yun became even more uneasy because of her overly indifferent reaction. She stood there, unsure whether to leave or sit down.
After finishing her water, Lin Yue casually and precisely tossed the empty bottle into a trash can a few meters away. Then, as if completing some kind of morning ritual, she turned around, slipped on her slippers, and slowly strolled back to her room.
Just as she turned around and her hand was already on the doorknob, she paused slightly.
"Light and darkness have no fixed boundaries. So does power."
"It's just a tool, a key. To open the gates of heaven, or to unlock the locks of hell..."
Lin Yue tilted her head slightly, and out of the corner of her eye, she seemed to glance at Xu Yun. Her gaze was so deep that it seemed to see into the depths of Xu Yun's soul.
"It all depends on the decision of the one who holds the key."
"Don't let fear blind you. And don't let the shackles imposed by others distort your choices."
As soon as the words fell, they were like a stone thrown into a deep pool, creating huge ripples in Xu Yun's heart! She suddenly looked up, staring incredulously at Lin Yue's back.
She seemed to know everything! Who was she? What was her purpose in taking her in? Could she be... in league with the Knights' Guild? Countless chaotic and terrifying thoughts churned wildly in Xu Yun's mind, almost suffocating her. Were her words... meant for her? Were they guidance? Or a warning?
But Lin Yue didn't give her any chance to ask questions. With a soft "bang," the door closed again, shutting out everything from the outside world.
Hmm, that was a pretty good performance.
Xu Yun stood frozen in place, her heart pounding. Lin Yue's profound yet incisive words echoed repeatedly in her chaotic mind. "Power... tools... choices... don't let the shackles imposed by others distort you..." These words seemed to possess a magical power, temporarily dispelling some of the gloom and fear in her heart, making her begin to think for the first time whether the power she had gained truly only led to destruction.
"Xiaoyun? What's wrong?" Yunyi's voice pulled her back to reality. He had just finished cleaning up in the kitchen and saw Xu Yun looking distraught, which worried him.
Xu Yun snapped back to reality, looked at Yun Yi's concerned eyes, forcibly suppressed the turmoil in her heart, squeezed out an extremely forced smile, and shook her head vigorously: "No...no! Brother Yun Yi, I'm fine, I'm just...just a little hungry."
She can't show it, absolutely not! This might be her only refuge, or it might be... a deeper trap.
"Hungry? That's perfect!" Yun Yi didn't think much of it, assuming she was just weak and shy, and immediately became enthusiastic. "It's almost noon, come on! I'll take you out for a nice meal! We can also do some shopping and get familiar with the surroundings. It's not good to stay cooped up at home all the time!" He wanted Xu Yun to relax and get out of her gloom as soon as possible.
"Get out?" Xu Yun instinctively shrank back, her eyes filled with fear.
Outside, there's the Knights Guild hunting us down, there's that terrifying monster, and now... there might also be this mysterious older sister.
"Don't be afraid!" Yun Yi patted his chest, his sunny smile carrying a reassuring power. "I'm here! I'm familiar with Z City now, and..." He lowered his voice and pointed to Lin Yue's door, "Sister Lin Yue doesn't like to be disturbed, so if we go out, she can have some peace and quiet. It's a win-win situation!"
"The weather is nice today, we can go for a walk in the park in the city center."
Xu Yun hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded. Although she still had an instinctive fear of crowded places, Yun Yi's enthusiasm and the strange feeling brought about by Lin Yue's words gave her a sliver of courage. It also covered up the scars that had not yet completely faded.
More importantly, she didn't want to let Yunyi down.
In the afternoon, the sun shone warmly, and the park was bustling with visitors. Yunyi tried his best to tell Xu Yun interesting stories from school, hoping to cheer her up.
Xu Yun followed Yun Yi, her face still tense behind her mask, but looking at the vibrant flowers and the children's happy smiles, her taut nerves did relax a bit.
Yunyi enthusiastically introduced her to various snack stalls and small shops, trying to make her happy, but her responses were always absent-minded, and her eyes wandered.
"Xiaoyun, look at that sugar figurine! It looks so real! Shall I go buy one for you?" Yunyi pointed to an old craftsman's stall not far away.
Xu Yun was about to shake her head when she suddenly felt a strong, chilling sensation of being watched creep up from behind! She whirled around, only to see the crowd surging, nothing out of the ordinary. Was it her imagination? Or…?
"What's wrong?" Yun Yi noticed her unusual behavior.
"N-nothing...it's nothing." Xu Yun forced herself to calm down, probably because she was too nervous.
Just then, a balloon vendor nearby seemed to be bumped by a running child, and a large cluster of colorful balloons suddenly slipped from his hand and floated into the air, causing a small gasp and a chase among the children.
This little commotion caught Yun Yi's attention, and he subconsciously looked up at the floating balloons.
In that split second of distraction!
Xu Yun felt a sudden darkness before her eyes! A rough, strong hand, reeking of a pungent chemical odor, suddenly covered her mouth and nose from the side!
Before she could even utter a sound, a strong wave of dizziness surged through her brain! Her eyes widened in terror, and she struggled in vain, but her limbs quickly lost their strength.
Another figure quickly approached, roughly lifting her limp body and dragging her towards an inconspicuous white van with dark tint on the side of the road! The van door had already slid open silently, like a monster with its jaws wide open!
"Ugh—!" Xu Yun's sobs were completely silenced, and despair overwhelmed her like a cold tide.
"Xiao Yun?!" Yun Yi's exclamation rang out almost simultaneously! He turned around sharply and saw Xu Yun being dragged towards the van! His blood rushed to his head instantly!
"Let her go!" Yun Yi roared and rushed forward without hesitation! He grabbed the arm of the man holding Xu Yun and tried with all his might to pull him back!
"You're asking for death!" Another burly man who was keeping watch sneered and delivered a heavy chop to Yun Yi's neck with a whoosh.
Yun Yi was, after all, just a high school student. Although he had learned some martial arts and had quick reflexes, his strength and fighting experience were far inferior to these ruthless human traffickers. He only felt a sharp pain in the back of his neck, saw stars before his eyes, and his body fell forward uncontrollably.
In the last second before he completely lost consciousness, in his blurred vision, he only saw Xu Yun being roughly stuffed into the van like a rag doll, and he himself was also dragged up by two large hands and thrown into the van that smelled of mildew and despair.
The car door slammed shut, shutting out the sunlight and noise of the outside world. The engine roared, and the van, like a wild dog unleashed, darted out of the alley…
