Chapter 273 Things I Don’t Want to See
A hint of sarcasm flashed in the man's eyes. He raised his gun and pointed at the door. "Let's go. It's time for you to meet our real master." His voice was cold and ruthless, as if everything was already decided.
Su Ming didn't respond, but a wave of unease and alarm welled up within him. He knew that if the other party truly intended to kill him, they would have already shot him. The fact that they didn't act immediately suggested they still needed to extract some information from him. But what information? Su Ming couldn't be sure. Because of this, he knew he still had a glimmer of hope, and he had to seize this last opportunity.
"What do they want?" Su Ming's mind raced, pondering how to escape. This conversation could very well be a stalling tactic, or perhaps a way to test his limits. He had to be careful, as every expression, every word, could become a way for them to gain control of him.
"Master?" Su Ming sneered inwardly. The implication behind these words was obvious. This opponent wasn't just some ordinary force, but a more complex organization, perhaps more sophisticated than any enemy he had encountered before. The man in black before him was merely a pawn on the chessboard; the true threat lay deeper.
"Okay, take me to see him." Su Ming responded in a calm tone, trying to maintain his composure. He knew that showing any panic in this situation might give the other party more confidence, and he couldn't let him gain the upper hand.
The man in black snorted softly and turned to walk out the door, his gun still pointed warily in Su Ming's direction. He slowly left the room, his movements clean and efficient, clearly a highly trained operator. Su Ming followed closely behind him. Though every nerve in his body was on edge, he remained calm and composed. He had to conceal his intentions and wait for the next opportunity to strike.
The two men walked through a dimly lit corridor. The mottled marks on the walls and the air filled with the smell of rust made the place seem particularly desolate. Su Ming's mind was constantly analyzing his surroundings, trying to memorize the location of every passage and every door, so that he could react quickly if needed. Although he was temporarily forced to follow the other party, it did not mean that he had given up the initiative.
"This operation went too smoothly." Su Ming felt a flicker of doubt. From the initial infiltration until now, everything seemed too meticulously planned, as if he were being guided along a predetermined path. He didn't like the feeling of being manipulated. With every step, he carefully assessed the situation.
At the end of the corridor was a heavy iron door. The man in black paused and reached out to enter a code. The moment the door opened, Su Ming felt a cold breath hit him. Behind the door was a closed basement. The air was filled with a damp, decayed smell, as if no one had been here for a long time.
"Go in." The man in black gestured to Su Ming to go in with the muzzle of his gun, his tone carrying an unquestionable command.
Su Ming nodded slightly and walked into the basement. His eyes quickly adjusted to the dim light and he looked around. The room was empty and cold, the walls covered in rust, and some dilapidated equipment was piled in the corner. It looked like it had once been an abandoned laboratory.
There was a chair in the center of the room, and before it stood a figure, his back to Su Ming. He couldn't see the other person's face, only their tall, straight back. This person was clearly waiting for him to arrive.
"You're here, Su Ming." The figure spoke in a low and powerful voice, with an oppressive feeling that was difficult to ignore.
Su Ming stopped and stared coldly at the other person's back. He was in no rush to speak, but waited for the other person to make the first move.
The man slowly turned around, revealing a stern face. His eyes were deep and cold, as if they could see through Su Ming's every thought. A faint smile played on his face, as if he had anticipated Su Ming's arrival.
"You should know that I've been waiting for you." The man's tone was calm, but it made people feel inexplicably nervous.
Su Ming didn't answer, still observing the other person's every move. His intuition told him that this person was extremely dangerous, far more threatening than the men in black he had encountered before.
"What do you want?" Su Ming finally spoke, his voice calm and restrained.
The man chuckled, then slowly walked over to the chair and sat down. His eyes never left Su Ming, as if he was carefully observing his every move.
"I know you're looking for 'Shadow,'" the man said calmly, a hint of disdain in his voice, "but do you think you can really find it?"
Su Ming's heart sank. The other party had actually mentioned "shadow" directly, which meant they were fully aware of his actions and perhaps even knew his goals from the beginning. Various possibilities flashed through his mind. How had all this been leaked? Or was someone secretly monitoring him?
"Do you know the whereabouts of 'Shadow'?" Su Ming asked tentatively, trying his best to make his voice sound calm, although countless questions were already surging in his heart.
“Of course I do,” the man replied with a smile, “but the question is, can you get it?”
Su Ming stared at the man's face, trying to discern any clues from his expression. However, the man remained calm and composed, as if he didn't care about Su Ming's reaction at all.
"Who are you?" Su Ming's voice was low, but his eyes became sharper.
"It doesn't matter who I am." The man waved his hand, seemingly disdainful of answering the question. "What matters is that you are under my control now. No matter what you do, it will be in vain."
Su Ming was secretly wary. He knew this conversation was just a psychological tactic designed to shake his confidence. However, he wouldn't be fooled so easily. He took a deep breath, trying to remain calm, and silently recited the coping strategies he had accumulated over the years.
The man seemed to see through Su Ming's thoughts. The corners of his mouth curled up slightly, revealing a playful smile. "You don't believe me? It doesn't matter. Next, I will let you see something you don't want to see with your own eyes."
As soon as he finished speaking, the man reached out and pressed a button on the table. Su Ming looked around warily. Suddenly, several strong beams of light shone from the corner of the room, illuminating the other side of the basement. Su Ming's gaze followed the beams and caught a glimpse of a transparent glass compartment. Inside, a figure lay quietly on a bed.
