Chapter 369: Imitation
Chapter 369: Imitation
Everyone was stunned by the new turn of events. They felt their view of the world overturned; after all, no matter the artifact, an Errant Knight should not be able to defeat a Master Knight!
It was at this moment that Vale reached the location. He stepped on the ashes and picked up the construct sword. The sword was vibrating, thrumming with pain.
He threw it to the side. "This is useless for now. Who should I kill next....ah, WaterLord Freya! I’ve heard so much about you, the most feared in the ocean!"
The WaterLord looked at him with hesitant respect. She pointed her right hand, that’s now made of ice. "You....Vale Athrimir. You are strong. Good, I will have a good fight here!"
Vale smiled, then he laughed loudly, his voice filled with malicious joy. Madness shone in his eyes. "I will enjoy fighting you too, but first. First, we must kill that pest!"
WaterLord Freya gave him a bewildered look. "Who?"
But Vale was already rushing toward her, and faced with his full aura, even WaterLord Freya took a step back in unconscious fear, her hand constructing a shield before she fully realized she was doing something like that.
But the aura didn’t focus on her. At the last moment there was a slight change, and something flew above. She realized too late as she whirled around.
Vale caught Commander Garran by the throat, his hand melting through ice as he held the man. Their eyes met, the man’s eyes showing stubbornness and resolute conviction.
On the other hand, Vale’s eyes showed little concern as he laughed. "Commander Garran, I’m not interested in why you did it, you did, and you’ll die for it!"
Strangely, Commander Garran didn’t struggle with him. He forced his words out. "You underestimate me, Vale! I am the Ice Beast!"
Just as he said that, his lips parted and ice fog blasted out, enclosing Vale’s hand in a bid to turn it to ice, and for a moment it happened!
The Commander quickly escaped, creating distance between them. And then he sneered. "I don’t know where you get your powers, and they’re strong, but at best it’s like two Master Knights. Now, let’s see how me and WaterLord Freya won’t kill you!"
WaterLord Freya, her body now covered in ice, held a sword while dozens of them floated around her, the swords covered in blue light, their dazzling points focused on him. "And let’s be quick about it too, we’ll kill him now that he’s in our hands, we can’t trust Lord Eirikr to do it properly!"
The space around the three of them was now filled with bitter frost, while any that touched Vale hissed and turned into fog. Commander Garran Ice Beast began chanting low, his eyes flashing with deep blue light, his mouth opened wide as a huge stream of fog spewed out of his mouth.
The fog curled around his limbs and formed into shapes. Different beasts and monsters formed around him, lifelike as they groaned, fangs and claws flashing with blue light.
And then the Commander himself changed. Ice filled him from the inside, turning his body blue and then rock hard. His figure lengthened, fingers ended in claws as he turned into an Ice Beast, a hulking monster holding an even bigger sword.
"You have indeed earned the name of Ice Beast, Commander Garran," Vale said solemnly, his voice tinged with respect as he looked at the man. But his eyes blazed with the promise of heat.
The two of them watched him wearily.
Vale looked at the Commander one more time and then he gestured. A formation appeared beside the man, making the ground glow a golden red, and a small chain appeared, warping around the man’s leg before he could react.
Commander Garran flinched, his leg raising automatically to break the chain, and then he froze. His eyes widened. "What is this? I can break this chain easily, it’s not strong at all..this is a trick!"
The Commander had been fighting for decades and had faced many opponents. How could he not have an idea of something like this? Magic like this takes something small and makes it into a big deal.
Vale didn’t concern himself with him anymore. Either the Commander breaks the chain or he stays there, he would still end up dealing with the man. The only problem was the ice beasts he created. But right then, Vale knew a bigger enemy, a stronger foe. The WaterLord.
The woman gestured and ice swords rained down like rain. Vale made a shield in front of him to keep them out, and the first set couldn’t get through, but then the swords blazed with brighter light and the next set shattered his shield.
Vale frowned as he avoided the swords, making a platform underneath himself to avoid them. It was the first time he would be using his shields in real battle and he realized a flaw quickly....the prison won’t stand up to stronger attacks that’s reinforced with essence, especially if it’s coming from the inside.
Vale flew through the air like lightning, the swords after him like annoying flies, leaving a trail of blue light behind him. He raised his own hand and launched fireballs at her, forcing her to flee her position as well.
He forced her to move toward where Commander Garran was staying so that he could keep his two enemies in his sight. He raised his hand and made a bigger fireball, also reinforcing it with his essence.
Reinforcing attacks with essence is tricky and powerful. The essence is pure essence that’s taken from the core to make certain attacks stronger, much stronger. Turning a single ice blade into an explosion.
His fireball smashed into the swords, the explosion destroying some of them. But Vale wasn’t fazed and he just created more until he destroyed the attack.
Vale grinned.
The WaterLord watched him wearily. "You surely seem like you have the power to throw around."
He shrugged. "I try."
She turned to Garran. "Enough. You won’t get out of this without taking wounds. I’m going to distract him, you will go in for the kill. Forget this chain trick!"
Commander Garran paused, and then did as she said. He yanked his leg back and broke the chain..
Vale nodded in satisfaction. "Well, you’ve just summoned the Warden!"
Before either of them could understand what he meant, flames roared to life beside Garran, melting through some of his Ice Beasts instantly. A hunched figure suddenly stood beside him, as tall as three men. A body made of red gold, and eyes brimming with cruelty looked down on him.
Commander Garran had only a moment to show inhuman surprise on his ice face before the Warden attacked. His punch was swift and smashed into the Commander like an angry small mountain, sending the man snapping back. The Warden flew after him with a roar.
WaterLord Freya watched with absolute shock, as if she couldn’t quite believe what she just saw. The battle between the Warden and Commander Garran was already getting loud behind her.
When she looked at him, her face showed a hint of fear that wasn’t there before. Fear that she hadn’t felt for a long, long time. "Who....what are you? Are you a demon?"
Even as she was speaking she was already making a technique. Her two hands raised as she created water and ice at the same time, fusing them together before his very eyes until her hands blazed with silver blue.
Even Vale felt a sense of danger wash over him as he saw this. ’....what type of technique is this...’
’...she....she is a very strong Master Knight! Even stronger than the Company Captains and they are strong. I can’t take this attack head on!...’
Vale instantly created a sword of almost solid Hellfire with his right hand. His left hand appeared with black lines as he bound the sword to hold the amount of power he was going to put into it.
Although Vale couldn’t say he was exceptional with swords. In fact, he wasn’t a genius at it and since he held a sword he had only become good at it because of his hard work. That was why he was at the top of his class then.
Practicing day and night.
And one thing practicing always like that can breed is the instinctive ability to imitate.
So his body moved and he settled into the motion that Morvane used in her last attack. It was pure imitation that paled considerably to the real thing, so much that it’s laughable.
But Vale forced his body to do it anyway. Dumping power into his sword.
It glowed and screamed. The raw power he put into it was staggering and the room heated up quickly, haze shimmering around him.
And unlike Morvane, where everyone felt as if they had been cut, this time what they felt from the pitiful imitation was as if a blunt object was poking them.
A strong blunt object.
