Chapter 193 Further Inquiry
Chapter 193 Further Inquiry
He Mengyao pushed the menu back and tapped her fingers on the table: "He's got too many problems. Ask him yourself."
Yu Heng glanced at Shen Yueling, then at He Mengyao, and picked up his pencil to continue marking the dishes: "What could be wrong with me? Ordering food."
Shen Yueling didn't say anything more, picked up her teacup and took a sip of water.
The broth and ingredients were served one after another. Yu Heng picked up a slice of tripe and dipped it in the spicy broth when his phone vibrated.
He glanced at it; it was a WeChat message from Zhou Wanyi.
Recently, since they hired a housekeeper, they've been chatting on WeChat much more frequently.
Zhou Wanyi: This aunt is quite thoughtful, and Xiaohui is quite fond of her.
Yu Heng typed back: That's good.
Zhou Wanyi: Have you eaten?
Yu Heng took a picture of the hot pot and sent it to him.
Zhou Wanyi: Let's eat first.
Yu Heng put down his phone, and Shen Yueling looked over: "Who was it?"
"My sister-in-law," Yu Heng said, "asked about Auntie."
"Oh," Shen Yueling replied, picking up another slice of tripe.
He Mengyao's ears twitched when she heard the words "sister-in-law". Aunt?
"Why didn't we just hire a housekeeper earlier?" He Mengyao pouted. "It would have saved us so much trouble."
"Where did the money come from? We can pay..." Yu Heng glanced at her, realizing he had also misspoke, and quickly said, "Shut up!"
He Mengyao scoffed, but didn't take it to heart.
After finishing their hot pot meal, Yu Heng paid the bill by scanning a QR code.
"Where to next?" Zhou Mengqi asked.
"Let's get a room and drop off our things first," Yu Heng said. "Then we can wander around a bit, and go straight to a karaoke bar tonight."
He Mengyao put down her chopsticks: "Why open a hotel? Just leave the food in my car."
Yu Heng looked up: "We're not going back to the university town tonight, we'll stay here overnight."
"Are you staying overnight?" He Mengyao's voice rose a little.
"Yeah," Yu Heng picked up his phone and started swiping. "We'll keep playing tomorrow. We're tired from shopping all day, why bother going back and forth?"
He opened the booking app without looking up: "I've only booked a family room. You can drive back yourself in a bit."
He Mengyao stared at him: "Why should I? I want to stay overnight too."
Yu Heng then looked up at her and said, "Then you can book the hotel yourself. Nobody's stopping you."
"I want to go with you," He Mengyao said.
"Together?" Yu Heng's finger paused on the screen, a slight smirk playing on his lips. "Going shopping and having dinner together is fine, but do you want to come along when we exercise tonight?"
"Who wants to exercise with you?" He Mengyao snorted. "I said we'd live together, not sleep together."
Yu Heng smiled and continued looking down at his phone: "Family rooms usually have two double beds, and you can also sleep with a sofa bed, but it's a bit cramped for the five of us."
His words were tacit approval, but Shen Yueling felt uneasy.
She felt that He Mengyao had no sense of boundaries, actually wanting to share a room with them.
"I go to bed early," Shen Yueling said. "Just don't stay up too late."
These words were said to Yu Heng, and also to He Mengyao.
She needed to express her stance without appearing petty.
Yu Heng glanced at her, said nothing, and tapped the screen a few times: "It's booked. Atour Hotel in the city center, family suite. Check-in is at 2 PM."
He put his phone away and stood up: "Let's go, let's put our things away first."
He Mengyao also stood up and went to the front desk to get the car keys.
She was actually a little pleased with herself; Yu Heng had finally agreed. This showed that he still cared about her, even if he wouldn't admit it.
The five people walked out of the hot pot restaurant. He Mengyao went to get the car, while the remaining four stood by the roadside to wait.
Zhou Mengqi leaned closer to Yu Heng and whispered, "Are you really letting her live with us?"
"What else?" Yu Heng glanced at her. "Are we going to dump her on the street?"
"That's not what I meant..." Zhou Mengqi pursed her lips, "It's just..."
Although she wanted to watch the show, it would be too awkward if a fight actually broke out, and she didn't want to put Yu Heng in a difficult position.
"It's alright," Yu Heng said casually, understanding her meaning. "It's just one more person. Don't you trust your own master?"
-
"Family suite, booked by Mr. Yu, is that correct?"
The receptionist took Yu Heng's ID card and then looked at the four girls behind him.
"Yes." Yu Heng handed over the order interface on his phone.
"How many people are staying?" the receptionist asked with a professional smile.
"Five," Yu Heng said.
"Okay." The receptionist looked down at her work, swiped Yu Heng's ID card, then looked up again, "The other four guests' IDs also need to be registered."
Shen Yueling was the first to hand over her ID card.
He Mengyao took out her ID from her bag, and Zhou Mengqi and Bai Xinran handed it over in turn.
While registering the girls, the receptionist glanced at them out of the corner of her eye.
Young, beautiful, and with diverse styles, they came with a man to book a family suite.
She had worked at this hotel for two years and had seen this kind of arrangement before, with more women than men or vice versa, but every time she saw it, she found it...quite interesting.
"The room is on the 18th floor, 1806. Here are the room cards, two in total." The receptionist handed back the ID and room cards together. "The elevator is on the left."
"Thank you." Yu Heng took the room key and turned to walk towards the elevator.
Zhou Mengqi quickened her pace to catch up with Yu Heng and whispered, "The receptionist looked at us really strangely just now."
Yu Heng pressed the elevator button: "Who cares?"
-
After entering the room, the group put down their things, and Shen Yueling gave Yu Heng a wink.
Then they went into a room together and closed the door.
"What exactly happened to that woman?" Shen Yueling asked in a low, firm voice as the door closed.
Yu Heng walked to the bedside and sat down, the mattress sinking slightly. "What happened?"
"Stop playing dumb." Shen Yueling didn't sit down, but stood and looked at him. "She hasn't stopped making a sound since she got on the bus. Why should she share a room with us?"
"She insisted on coming along, could I possibly kick her out?" Yu Heng took out his cigarette case, pulled out a cigarette and put it in his mouth. "You've seen how difficult it is to get a taxi in the university town."
"Why not book two rooms? Why do we have to squeeze into one?" Shen Yueling frowned.
"Two rooms for free?" Yu Heng lit a cigarette. "A suite costs over eight hundred a night."
"I'll pay," Shen Yueling said.
Yu Heng looked up at her: "Are you burning money?"
"I just don't want to sleep in the same room as her." Shen Yueling turned her face away. "Awkward."
Yu Heng laughed: "Are you jealous?"
"I'm not jealous at all." Shen Yueling rolled her eyes. "I just think she has no sense of propriety. Look at how she acted in the car, at the mall, and at the hot pot restaurant today..."
"Let her mind her own business if she wants," Yu Heng said nonchalantly. "It's not like it'll hurt me."
"You," Shen Yueling glared at him, "don't you like this kind of thing? You even told me to behave before."
"Haha, that's because I have to spend all my time with you," Yu Heng laughed and said, "I don't want to do anything with her."
"Really?" Shen Yueling raised an eyebrow. "She knows you so well, I didn't even know you had stomach problems. She doesn't seem like someone you haven't had a deep conversation with."
"Really?" Yu Heng said seriously. "It's just an acquaintance from school, and I asked her to teach me some dance."
You can't exactly say that this was the woman he originally intended to marry, can you?
