Chapter 275: A Son’s Trial
Chapter 275: A Son’s Trial
A Son’s Trial
"Let’s call it a day. I’ve told you all the key points..."
Julian D’Aurelius stretched lazily as he finished speaking. The afternoon sunlight streamed through the windows, casting warm golden patterns across the floorboards. Dust motes drifted through the air like tiny stars, creating a peaceful atmosphere after several hours of discussion.
Across from him, Lina Ashford and Liza Voss sat quietly.
Lina was reviewing everything Julian had explained, her beautiful purple eyes thoughtful and focused. Meanwhile, Liza looked slightly overwhelmed from absorbing so much information at once.
Just as Julian was about to let the two women rest, his room door was pushed open from the outside.
The relaxed atmosphere instantly froze.
Gary D’Aurelius stood at the doorway.
His expression was completely blank.
Too blank.
He glanced around the room.
His gaze swept over Julian.
Then over Lina.
Then over Liza.
The silence somehow felt heavier than any lecture.
Finally, he spoke.
"Lunch ready."
With that, he closed the door.
Bang.
The room became strangely quiet.
Julian rubbed his nose.
Something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
"Hurry up and change your clothes," Julian urged Liza.
He could already sense the murderous intent in his father’s eyes.
Liza immediately understood what he meant.
A faint blush appeared on her petite face.
She stuck out her tongue playfully before standing up.
"Got it."
Her long black hair swayed behind her as she walked toward the door.
Since her room and Lina’s room were directly across from Julian’s, changing clothes only took a moment.
After she left, Lina looked at Julian and chuckled softly.
"You seem nervous."
"Nervous? Impossible."
Julian answered confidently.
Then he paused.
"...Maybe a little."
Lina couldn’t help laughing.
The sound was light and pleasant.
Julian sighed.
Life really was difficult sometimes.
Especially when fathers possessed an almost supernatural ability to detect suspicious situations.
Feeling a bit guilty, Julian stood up and prepared to head downstairs for lunch.
Unfortunately.
Before he could even reach the dining table, a terrifying wave of killing intent struck him from behind.
It felt as if a mountain had suddenly descended onto his shoulders.
Fortunately, Julian quickly activated the Undestroyable Barrier Skill.
His body instantly became as stable as an ancient mountain.
Then—
A hand grabbed his ear.
"Come here."
Gary D’Aurelius’s voice was calm.
Far too calm.
Julian immediately knew things were serious.
Although he didn’t feel any pain thanks to the technique protecting him, he still let out an exaggerated cry.
"Dad! Dad! Be gentle! My ear’s going to fall off!"
Gary remained expressionless.
Not fooled in the slightest.
Like a criminal being escorted to trial, Julian was dragged all the way toward the study.
Life is like a play, all about acting.
Unfortunately, his father had already seen through his performance years ago.
The study door opened.
Julian entered.
Then froze.
Because Veena D’Aurelius was already sitting inside.
Her hands rested neatly on her lap.
Her expression appeared gentle.
Which was somehow even scarier.
A father alone was manageable.
A mother alone was survivable.
A united front?
That was a disaster.
Seeing this setup, ready for a parental double-team, Julian chuckled awkwardly.
"What’s going on, you two? A tribunal?"
Neither parent laughed.
The atmosphere became even more awkward.
Gary folded his arms.
His eyes narrowed.
"What’s going on with you? I’ve noticed you’re getting more and more perverted lately."
Flick.
His finger landed squarely on Julian’s forehead.
It wasn’t painful.
But the meaning behind it was crystal clear.
Julian immediately covered his forehead and looked wronged.
"Dad, that’s a serious accusation."
"A serious accusation?"
Gary snorted.
"You think I don’t know my own son?"
Julian wisely chose silence.
Years of experience had taught him one important lesson.
Never argue with your parents when they had already reached a conclusion.
Especially when evidence probably existed.
Veena glanced between father and son.
She seemed hesitant.
As though she wasn’t sure whether to speak.
But after thinking for a moment, she finally sighed and joined the conversation.
"Your father is right. Recently, you’ve been spending nearly every day alone in your room with Lina and Liza. You do remember that you’re already engaged to dear Selena, don’t you? And what was with the outfit Liza was wearing? That dress was far too revealing for a young lady. Don’t tell me you encouraged her to wear it."
The concern in her voice was genuine.
After all, Selena Aurevale was practically family already.
Meanwhile, Lina and Liza had also become extremely close to the D’Aurelius Household.
Especially Liza.
After returning to the D’Aurelius Household, Julian had found an opportunity to explain her background to his parents.
Upon learning that Liza was Logan Voss’s daughter, Gary and Veena had been genuinely delighted.
Even Patriarch D’Aurelius had personally invited Liza over for dinner multiple times.
The old man practically treated her as his own granddaughter.
Which only made today’s situation look even more suspicious.
Julian immediately felt a headache coming.
How was he supposed to explain this?
Julian opened his mouth, then closed it again.
After a few seconds of thought, he forced out a dry laugh and rubbed the back of his neck.
"Come on, Mom, Dad. Isn’t that a bit of an overreaction? Lina and Liza are both adults. If they want to dress nicely, that’s their choice. Besides, we were discussing serious matters the whole time. It’s not like I was paying attention to what they were wearing."
The moment the words left his mouth, Julian felt they sounded fairly reasonable.
At least to him.
Unfortunately, the expressions on his parents’ faces didn’t change in the slightest.
Not even a little.
Gary simply stared at him.
One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.
Then a cold chuckle escaped his lips.
"Don’t give me that."
Julian’s eyelid twitched.
Danger.
Extreme danger.
"I know you’re just being lustful."
Gary pointed directly at him.
"I saw it when you were little."
Julian suddenly had a bad feeling.
A very bad feeling.
"When you were seven, I took you to the waterpark for the experience, and you insisted on going to the women’s section."
The room fell silent.
Complete silence.
Julian stared blankly.
His expression froze.
"..."
A memory surfaced.
Then another.
Then another.
His face instantly darkened.
"Dad, I was seven."
"So?"
"I didn’t even understand anything at that age."
Gary crossed his arms.
"You still tried sneaking in."
"Dad."
"You got caught by security."
"Dad."
"You cried for half an hour."
"Dad!"
Veena tried her best to maintain a serious expression.
Failed.
A laugh escaped her lips.
Julian immediately covered his face.
This was slander.
Historical slander.
The worst part was that he couldn’t even deny it.
Because it had actually happened.
The more he thought about it, the more embarrassed he became.
Meanwhile, Gary seemed completely satisfied after exposing his son’s childhood black history.
His stern expression finally softened slightly.
Veena shook her head helplessly.
"You really worry us sometimes."
Her voice carried warmth beneath the criticism.
Julian noticed it immediately.
The tension in the room gradually faded.
His parents weren’t truly angry.
They were simply worried.
Worried that he might hurt Selena.
Worried that he might make mistakes.
Worried because they cared.
Understanding that, Julian’s expression softened as well.
"I know."
He smiled.
"I’ll be careful."
Gary grunted.
"See that you are."
The conversation continued for a little while longer, mostly consisting of parental lectures and Julian’s attempts at self- defense.
Unfortunately, his success rate remained extremely low.
Eventually, the tribunal finally concluded.
After a thorough scolding, Julian left the study looking dejected.
