Chapter 65 You're now part of our family.
"Really? My aunt went last night? She really said that?"
Tang Zhi looked at Zhou Heng beside her in surprise and asked in disbelief.
When Zhou Heng arrived in the morning, he told Tang Zhi what had happened the night before.
He breathed a sigh of relief; he had received his living expenses and no longer needed to worry about his exam results, all thanks to Yin Mengran.
"Yes, and then we'll invite you to dinner tonight. My mom will probably call my aunt today to let her know, so you can come with us tonight."
"Oh well."
Tang Zhi nodded. She looked in the direction of Yin Mengran, who was sitting in the front row. She saw that Yin Mengran seemed to be in a good mood, greeting and chatting with other classmates with a smile.
When Zhou Heng took out his books, ready to read and study, Tang Zhi asked:
"How did you decide on the events for the sports meet? Are you planning to not let me sign up for any of them, and then sign them all up for yourself?"
Zhou Heng tapped his fingers on the table and said calmly, "I won't interfere on my own. I'll listen to Yin Mengran completely."
"Really? What made you change your mind?"
Zhou Heng glanced at Yin Mengran ahead and muttered softly:
"It's nothing, I just feel that I was a bit naive before."
The day passed quickly.
As school ended, Tang Zhi didn't leave first as usual, but waited for Zhou Heng and Yin Mengran.
After all three of them had packed their things, they left the school together.
Tang Zhi noticed that Yin Mengran seemed a bit off, so she reached out and touched her, asking:
"What's wrong? Are you nervous? Didn't you meet my aunt last night?"
"Yeah...but...I'm still a little nervous."
Yin Mengran answered honestly, admitting that even though she had received approval the previous night, she still dared not let her guard down.
After all, I am still an outsider, so I should always maintain politeness and respect, and not be too presumptuous.
"It's okay, relax. My aunt has agreed to let you stay. You're family now."
Tang Zhi patted Yin Mengran on the shoulder, comforting her.
"A family..."
Yin Mengran muttered something, as if something inside her had been touched, and her nose suddenly felt sore.
After the three left the school, Zhou Heng squinted and scanned the area around the school gate.
Finally, in an open space nearby, a car was spotted.
The driver's side window rolled down, and Liu Wei poked her head out. Seeing the three of them, she waved to them.
Zhou Heng went out first, followed by Tang Zhi, with Yin Mengran following behind.
Zhou Heng opened the passenger door and got in, while Tang Zhi and Yin Mengran sat in the back.
After Tang Zhi got into the car, she greeted Liu Wei in front of her: "Hello, Auntie!"
Liu Wei smiled and replied, "Hello, Xiao Zhi, long time no see, you've become even more beautiful."
"Auntie, you look younger and younger."
"Haha, Xiao Zhi's love for sweets is something else, she has such a sweet tongue."
Liu Wei glanced at Yin Mengran in the rearview mirror, who seemed rather uncomfortable in the back seat, and called out softly:
"Xiaoran?"
"Hey... Auntie..."
Yin Mengran responded quickly, afraid that even a second's delay would offend Liu Wei.
Liu Wei asked in a very gentle tone, "What do you want to eat? Just say whatever you want, it's up to you."
"Ah... I... I'm fine with anything, Auntie, you can decide, you don't need to listen to me..."
"Okay, then Auntie has made up her mind. If you don't like it, just say so."
"Um..."
Liu Wei drove away from there, heading towards the street where the restaurants were still open.
Even though it was already night, the place was brightly lit, all the restaurants were open, and there were quite a few people.
Finally, Liu Wei parked the car in front of a hot pot restaurant and led the three of them inside.
The restaurant was crowded, but luckily there were still empty seats. A waiter led them to an empty table, where they sat down.
After getting the menu, Liu Wei handed it to Yin Mengran, wanting her to order.
Of course, Yin Mengran declined. How could she possibly order food? She was just an outsider; she was already being kind enough to come and eat with her, so she had to be polite.
Zhou Heng could see that Yin Mengran was in a difficult situation, so he didn't make things difficult for her. He took the menu and let him order.
After she finished ordering, Liu Wei's phone rang. She took out her phone, glanced at the number, stood up, and said to the other three:
"You guys eat first, I'm going to take this call."
Afterwards, Liu Wei took her phone, left her seat, and walked out of the restaurant.
With the remaining three people, the atmosphere became more relaxed, and they soon started chatting.
"Yin Mengran, what did you say to Zhou Heng? He came to me this morning and said that he would let you arrange the events for the sports meet. I almost got into a fight with him before, and I didn't give in."
"I...I didn't say anything..."
"I can leave the sports meet events to Yin Mengran, but there's also the opening ceremony performance, which I'm determined to do."
The three chatted for a while, and then the hot pot broth arrived. Hot pot dishes are served quickly, with plates of food being brought out one after another. Liu Wei hadn't finished her phone call yet.
Zhou Heng picked up his chopsticks first and told the other two that they could eat, but Yin Mengran still didn't dare to touch her chopsticks. She thought she should wait for Zhou Heng's mother to come back before eating.
Yin Mengran raised her head and looked in the direction Liu Wei had left not far away.
But as he looked up, he made eye contact with a woman passing by their table.
"!!"
Upon seeing Yin Mengran, the woman immediately stopped and stood beside their table, staring at Yin Mengran with her eyebrows raised and lowered.
Yin Mengran's face changed color instantly, her mouth opened slightly, her lips trembled, and her eyes widened.
The woman was middle-aged, somewhat plump, with round, protruding ears, pearly lips, and a pointed chin; she looked like someone you wouldn't want to mess with.
"Yin Mengran?"
The woman raised an eyebrow, a disdainful smile playing on her lips.
Upon hearing the sound, Zhou Heng and Tang Zhi both looked up, staring in surprise at the woman beside them.
Yin Mengran stared at the woman, but even after calling her name, Yin Mengran did not respond, only keeping her eyes fixed on the woman with cold and sharp gaze.
He bit his lip so hard it almost bled, and his hand on the table was clenched into a fist.
The woman crossed her arms, making her look like a water bucket, tilted her head, and said in a sarcastic tone:
"What? Not going to say hello? Didn't your mother teach you manners? Oh, I forgot, even if she wanted to, she couldn't, tsk tsk tsk..."
Upon hearing this, Yin Mengran's breathing immediately quickened, her body trembled slightly, and her clenched fists turned white from the force.
Zhou Heng and Tang Zhi frowned even more. Tang Zhi put down her chopsticks, glared at the woman, and asked:
"Auntie, who are you?"
