Chapter 65
Chapter 65
Nalan Jingwen rested at the inn for one night. He went to bed early and nothing happened. He had a peaceful night and got up early the next morning.
As she boarded the carriage, Hongyun hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but then stopped herself.
"Tell me if you have anything to say."
"Miss, Young Master Pei has not returned all night."
Nalan Jingwen's expression shifted slightly. "Where is Mirror Pool?"
"He hasn't returned yet."
Nalan Jingwen was silent for a moment, then said, "Send a few people to stay here and report back to me as soon as they return."
"Yes."
The carriage soon arrived in the territory of the Northern Cold Peak. Although it was daytime, it was extremely dark here. The cold wind raged and howled, making it impossible to open one's eyes. Just entering this territory, one felt as if the blood in one's body was about to freeze solid. This was a high peak, a snow-capped peak that stood out from the crowd, as if there was a barrier. Outside the barrier, the seasons changed, while inside the barrier, blizzards raged.
Once the carriage entered the territory, it began to have difficulty moving forward, braving the cold wind and snow, slowly and unsteadily advancing.
Ultimately, they could only reach two-thirds of the way before being unable to go any further.
"Your Highness, the carriage can't move."
Nalan Jingwen carefully carried Rong Hengyu on his back, tied a rope to secure him, and only after making sure he wouldn't fall off did he prepare to set off.
"You stay here and provide backup."
She couldn't possibly look after just one more person. The dangers on the snow-capped peak were unknown, and she wasn't sure if she had the ability to handle them. So, it was best for her to go up alone with the others.
Hongyun frowned, her face full of worry, clearly very concerned.
"Your Majesty..."
"No need for further words. If I am not back within a day, you must bring Young Master Pei back to the capital safely."
Hongyun looked at her with a pained and indignant expression, but quickly regained her resolve.
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
Nalan Jingwen said no more and led his men slowly upwards.
Hongyun watched the red figure gradually disappear into the distance, feeling an overwhelming sense of awe. She knelt down with a thud, and everyone behind her followed suit.
In the days that have passed, as she has spent time with Nalan Jingwen, she has long forgotten the impression people have of her. She is now a completely different Nalan Jingwen. She doesn’t know why the people say that the prince is such a wicked person, but she knows that the wise prince is not like that at all. He is calm, composed and decisive in the face of adversity. And now, the prince has even risked his life to save her master. How can she not admire him?
"Your Highness, your subordinate will await your return."
The wind and snow were too heavy, and those words were scattered in the snow and did not reach Nalan Jingwen's ears. However, she seemed to sense something and looked back, only to see a vast expanse of white.
The snow-capped peaks were too steep, so she could only channel her inner energy into her feet to land steadily on the ground. She didn't even dare to use her lightness skill, as the wind and snow were too strong and she could be blown away if she wasn't careful.
They walked slowly forward, the person on their back wrapped up tightly, even their head covered, as if afraid the cold wind might sneak in.
Fortunately, there was Ruan Lingyu; otherwise, how could Rong Hengyu's current weakened body have withstood the attack?
She no longer needed to use some of her profound energy to protect his heart meridian.
It's unknown how long this profound energy can last.
The wind and snow raged fiercely, howling like wolves and tigers, tearing apart everything within reach, and endless white snow fell from the sky, piling up layer upon layer.
Nalan Jingwen's face was cold and stern as she walked forward with firm steps. Because the snow was so thick, it was easy to slip and fall, so she had to be extra careful and concentrate.
Snow kept rolling down from above, but she managed to dodge it accurately. If it weren't for her Xuan power protecting her, she would have been frozen solid by now if it were just ordinary internal energy.
But she still dared not be distracted and remained highly focused.
I don't know how long we walked, but the sky was still overcast, and I couldn't tell the time.
Suddenly, the ground beneath her feet began to shake violently, and the snow tumbling down became even more turbulent. Nalan Jingwen's heart tightened as a huge boulder rolled down from above at an extremely fast speed. Her eyes darkened, and she used her strength to grab a corner of a rock beside her, quickly dodging it.
The boulder brushed past her, rolling down with destructive force, snowflakes swirling around her, blurring the world between heaven and earth.
For a moment, she froze, looked down, and saw that the rope binding her body had been slashed by a sharp blade and was about to break.
Her expression hardened, and she quickly grabbed the strap, pulling the person on her back to the front just before it snapped.
Before she could even catch her breath, her gaze fell upon a field of pure white. Her expression changed, and then she heard a loud crash as large swathes of snow began to crumble, ice shards scattered, and a fierce wind swept through the air.
She immediately channeled her profound energy to form a protective shield, enveloping Rong Hengyu within it. Before he could react, the person in her arms was swept away, and the two were forced to separate.
"Rong Hengyu!!"
Her eyes narrowed as she watched Rong Hengyu being covered.
He channeled his profound energy to resist the onslaught of the thick snow. His body was heavy, but he had no time to care. He headed towards the direction where Rong Hengyu had been swept away by the snow.
Nalan Jingwen's heart sank lower and lower. He had not found anyone. All he could see was a vast expanse of white, a boundless whiteness, utterly chaotic.
She kept digging, her hands and feet already frozen and swollen, but she didn't stop. Because she used too much Xuan power, her fingertips were frozen and cracked, oozing bright red blood that stained the snow-white skin like blood-stained red plum blossoms.
The mountain gradually calmed down and stopped shaking.
She didn't know how long she had been digging when she caught a glimpse of a pale gold patch out of the corner of her eye. She quickly got up and went over, but a thick layer of snow separated them, preventing her from reaching it.
"Rong Hengyu!!"
The man, whose body was half covered by snow, slowly opened his eyes. After a moment of confusion, he heard a familiar voice.
"Rong Hengyu, you're awake? Give me your hand quickly!!"
When Rong Hengyu saw that familiar face, his expression was full of worry and solemnity, and he looked utterly disheveled.
"Give me your hand right now!!"
Urged on relentlessly, he slowly raised his hand, but had little strength. Looking down, he saw that most of himself was buried in the snow.
"Rong Hengyu, listen to me! We'll get the Crimson Lotus soon, and your injuries will heal. Give me your hand now! Otherwise, all my efforts will have been in vain!!"
A ripple appeared in Rong Hengyu's phoenix eyes as he looked at Nalan Jingwen's bloodless face and his broken, blood-stained fingertips.
Finally, with great effort, he raised his hand to touch the bloodstained one.
It's very cold, like an ice cube.
Nalan Jingwen grabbed Rong Hengyu's hand and immediately pulled him out, afraid of hurting him, and let him fall on his body.
Rong Hengyu heard the person beneath him groan. That body was very cold, filled with the aura of ice and snow.
His phoenix eyes flickered slightly, and he rested his head against her chest.
After pulling the man up, Nalan Jingwen breathed a sigh of relief and quickly checked him for injuries.
"How are you? Are you hurt?!"
Even though she had previously given most of her profound energy to Rong Hengyu to create a protective shield to prevent him from being hit, she was still afraid of the worst-case scenario.
Rong Hengyu was unable to speak, but simply stared at her with his phoenix eyes.
