Chapter 137 Preparing for War

Chapter 137 Preparing for War

Ling Xiaotian and Lin Ting walked toward the combat command room, and the entire Marshal's Mansion immediately fell into a state of intense combat readiness. Cheng Yuwei stood in the courtyard, watching them leave, feeling a wave of unease. She took a deep breath, turned back to her room, spread out the draft paper on the table, and began to write down her analysis of the enemy's possible routes of action.

Not long after, the maid Xiao Tao came in with hot tea. Seeing Cheng Yuwei deep in thought, she couldn't help but say, "Madam, you've been tired for a few days. Take a rest."

Cheng Yuwei took the teacup with a smile and took a sip. The warm aroma of the tea permeated her heart. She whispered, "Xiao Tao, we can't relax now. The enemy is coming with great force. I must help Xiao Tian make more preparations."

Xiao Tao nodded, a hint of worry in her eyes: "Don't worry, Madam, the young commander and his men will definitely win."

As the two were talking, hurried footsteps were heard outside the door. Lin Ting hurried in with a serious look on his face. "Young Madam, we've discovered from the secret report that there's a suspicious person lurking in the city. I'm afraid he's a spy trying to gather intelligence."

Cheng Yuwei put down her teacup, her brow furrowed. "At this moment, it's extremely dangerous to have a traitor lurking inside. Chief of Staff Lin, do you have any suspects?"

Lin Ting nodded. "We have several suspects, and we are investigating them one by one. But Madam, you must be more careful and don't trust strangers."

Cheng Yuwei's heart sank as she pondered the spy's motives and possible plans. Just then, a bird chirped outside the window, as if something unusual was happening. Her heart tightened, and she stood up and walked to the window, only to see a carrier pigeon quickly take off. Cheng Yuwei's eyes flashed, and she turned back to look at Lin Ting: "Someone is delivering a message."

Lin Ting's expression changed: "It seems that the enemy is moving faster than we expected."

Cheng Yuwei's eyes were filled with determination. She said, "We must set up a trap to lure this spy out."

As night fell, the Marshal's Mansion was quiet, but undercurrents surged. Cheng Yuwei and Lin Ting placed secret sentries in the mansion and pretended to spread some false military intelligence to lure the enemy out.

In the middle of the night, Cheng Yuwei sat in her study, feigning exhaustion as she scanned the books on the shelves. Suddenly, she heard the sound of footsteps. The door to the room was silently pushed open, and a figure stalked in, greed in its eyes.

Cheng Yuwei held her breath, her hand tightly gripping the dagger on the table. Just as the shadow approached, Lin Ting and a group of soldiers rushed out from the shadows and surrounded the man. The shadow, startled by the sudden encirclement, turned pale, his eyes filled with despair.

"Tell me, who sent you?" Lin Ting asked sternly.

The man gritted his teeth and said nothing. Cheng Yuwei stepped forward and said calmly, "If you tell me who's behind this, there might be a glimmer of hope."

The shadow hesitated for a moment, but ultimately closed his eyes, as if making some kind of decision. Just when everyone thought the interrogation was fruitless, the sound of hurried horse hooves echoed outside the door. Ling Xiaotian, covered in dust, rushed in, his eyes as sharp as a knife: "Did you catch him?"

Lin Ting nodded, his eyes showing a hint of fatigue but determination: "Young Marshal, the spy is here and is awaiting interrogation."

Ling Xiaotian's eyes flashed coldly as he glanced at the captured spy and said coldly, "Very good. We must let the black hands behind this know that they always underestimate us."
